Bad habits are not only annoying to others but they can prove quite costly to maintain. If you wish to forget the pain it causes you it is your choice, but do not forget that bad habits hit you where it hurts the most your wallet.
It has been a universally accepted fact that smoking is a bad habit. Earlier people smoked more number of cigarettes when they were cheaper. Now, many people have reduced the number of cigarettes but the amount they spend of these less no. of cigarettes is more than what they used to spend earlier. And this is because of inflation.
This is because policymakers have felt it appropriate to levy big tax on cigarettes. In many regions the taxes are even higher. Some states are planning a hike of 10$ per carton. That should stop you from smoking don’t you think so?
Another bad habit is alcohol addiction which is subject to sin tax. It all depends on your taste in alcohol whether it is costly or cheap. Normally people start with expensive alcohol but as their need increases they shift to cheaper brands. Nevertheless it is normal for someone to visit a bar on a Friday night and squander the paycheck on alcohol.
Doctors prescribe strong pain killers or muscle relaxants when somebody is injured especially back injury to relieve pain in the first painful days. This is normal medical response to a person’s condition. But the medication proves so good the person goes for more. The most expensive of the bad habits is addiction to illegal drugs like cocaine, heroin, marijuana etc. These drugs are very expensive more so because they are illegal. If a person gets addicted to one of these drugs, then he should be ready to face bankruptcy unless he is determined to quit.
Another bad habit that makes people bankrupt is gambling. Some people are so much addicted to gambling that they even lose their houses and other belongings too and may still be in deep financial trouble. To make matters worse now with internet access there is online gambling too and those who do not want to get away can still gamble sitting at home.
Shopping is another bad habit. Shopaholics can refrain themselves from spending money on shopping. This can make a budget go haywire. It may take money away from things that are necessary to be paid like a car payment or a mortgage.
In short, these bad habits are expensive in the short run. Many of them are expensive over time, as they may lead to certain health issues. For example cost of cigarettes is high, but the treatment of lung cancer is more expensive. So the only solution is getting rid of these bad habits. Only this can help you in improving your finances.
