How to Change Your Bad Habits
Every one has some form of bad habit or habits that they want to break, change, or just rid of completely. When it comes to weight and the foods that we choose to eat, some of these bad habits can be toxic and lethal to our health. So how do we go about making it easier to get over them so we can live a healthier and happier life?
First we have to understand just what a habit is before we can learn how to make the necessary changes. A habit is formed from repetition, doing things over and over again. At some point it becomes wired in our brain and we become used to it. Then anytime we go against that grain or do something different, we physically and mentally feel different. This then is better known as taking us out of our comfort zones. This is why habits are so hard to break.
The good news is that habits can be changed or reformed. We just have to get over the initial uncomfortable feeling and start wiring the new good habits into our brain. Once you are past the initial uncomfortable feeling you get being out of your comfort zone, then it is just as easy to develop these good habits as it was the bad.
They say it takes about 21 days to form a habit. So it is possible for you to start changing your habits and making the right decisions. It is never too late to do so.
When it comes to health and weight loss, your bad habits are most likely the foods you eat and whether or not you are making it to the gym and working out.
When you start making alternatives to your bad food choices, and you enjoy the alternatives, then the process of changing the habit becomes easy. Keep trying different alternatives until you find a good substitute for your bad foods. Once you do, just add that into your diet and keep making changes until you have completely altered your relationship with the foods you eat.
If you have a bad habit of doing something other than going to the gym when you need to go, try to stay focused on the postive aspect that the gym provides. As you start going constantly and seeing the great results you are making, then this will only reaffirm your positive beliefs that you gave to yourself and will make going to the gym from then on out much easier.
Bad habits are a vicious cycle that luckily you can control, stop in its tracks, and add in good healthy habits instead. Once you start getting into a good habit cycle it will be just as easy to maintain it as it was the bad cycle.
